About the Federation

The Federation represents the interests of allotment holders and gardeners in the London Borough of Hillingdon. The membership comprises of representatives from allotment sites and individuals with an interest in allotments. Other organisations and horticultural societies may be affiliated to the Federation by invitation or request.

Aims of the Federation

To promote the use of allotments for growing vegetables, fruit and flowers, also for creating leisure or wildlife areas where sanctioned and appropriate. To represent the interest of its members to the Local Authority, and where feasible, to any Government or non-Government organisation promoting allotment usage. To work in partnership with the Local Authority in preserving adequate levels of allotment provision, promoting best practice in the promotion of management, upkeep and cultivation of allotments. To co-operate with other horticultural societies in Hillingdon and where practical, organisations supporting good horticultural, environmental and health practices. To offer advice to actual or potential allotment holders and to encourage allotmemt representatives to play an active role in the work of the Federation.

The Federation Committee

The Committee consists of elected members of the Federation. They meet six times a year to discuss allotment issues with the Allotment Officer and other Council Officials. Some members of the committee are part of the team of judges who visit allotment sites during the annual competition. They also promote allotments at various local events.
