Arrangements are already under way for this years judging. Teams of two experienced volunteer judges will visit every site over a two week period in June, every plot is automatically entered.
Points are awarded in several categories, see below, the five easiest points are for making sure you have your plot number clearly visible.
The best 60 – 70 plots are revisited by a team of three expert judges in National Allotment Week (13th -19th August) The criteria are the same as round one. Scores from the two rounds are added together and the top 50 plot holders and partners are invited to a presentation and buffet at the HAHF AGM. The top 3 get cash prizes.
There are also 3 cups for the allotment sites.
- Best small site (less than 50 plots)
- Best large site (over 50 plots)
- Best London Borough of Hillingdon Site (as the self-managed sites have an advantage in the first two) A new formal criteria looking at appearance for the public, being a good example, common paths, common areas, notice boards and waste disposal is up and running.
Do look at the criteria for both plots & sites, full details on the website. It is quite easy to be recognised in the top 50 if you just put in a little effort, and even if you don’t think of yourself as ‘competitive’, the criteria themselves give some pointers to what a good allotment looks like.
